Shriya Saran When I studied in DPS Mathura Road in Delhi, there was a school for blind exactly opposite to our school. I used to go there every week and spend time seeing how these students played cricket and did other things normally. – Shriya Saran
Reed Morano In my 20s, I was too shy to reach out to successful DPs and directors for an internship or to shadow them. I see young people nowadays doing that all the time. I think that experience would have been cool. – Reed Morano
Reed Morano I learned a lot while I was ACing and gripping for other DPs as I was coming up. – Reed Morano
Reed Morano I don’t want to step on the DP’s toes. That’s the first lesson I learned when I started directing with other cinematographers. – Reed Morano
Rachel Morrison The first female DPs that I was aware of were Ellen Kuras, Mandy Walker, Nancy Schreiber, Amy Vincent, Sandi Sissel, Maryse Alberti and Tami Reiker. You look for a role model as somebody who looks like yourself and is doing what you want to do; they were the handful. – Rachel Morrison
Rachel Morrison The big trick is just to get to a point where we’re just considered DPs, and we’re not ‘female DPs.’ When you think of the word ‘doctor’ or ‘teacher,’ you don’t think gender. And it would be nice to get to a place where ‘DP’ meant either and ‘director’ meant either and ‘gaffer’ meant either. – Rachel Morrison
John David Washington So many people – DPs, writers, and the assistants that go on to be directors and writers – come from the School of Spike Lee. He’s almost set up an Institution of Spike Lee. – John David Washington
Greig Fraser This is the great thing about my friends over at Lucasfilm: They are so committed to the highest quality product that they allow their DPs to come on well in advance of the shoot. – Greig Fraser
Gayle Rankin I sometimes get starstruck when I meet people who I didn’t necessarily know what they look like, like directors or DPs, if I’m a huge fan of theirs. – Gayle Rankin
